Gone are the days where wedding cakes have to be white or even a "cake" in the traditional sense. Here are some tips for selecting your wedding cakes:

1) Ingredients of your choice of wedding cakes is very important. Especially icing and decorations which are greatly affected by atmosphere and temperature conditions. You need to determine whether your wedding is held indoors or outdoors. Buttercream, for instance, might not hold up for several hours of exposure to really warm temperatures.

2) Do some research on your own with wedding magazines that are widely available in most bookstores before selecting wedding cake design. Bring along the pictures that you have selected before going down to your local bakery to view their portfolio. Chances are, they will be able to duplicate what you have requested with your pictures.

3) Your wedding cakes can reflect the style and personality of the bride and groom--it can be humorous, ornate, avant garde, traditional, simple, or of course, mirror the theme you've chosen for your wedding and reception.
